Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), said he would have removed fuel subsidy in an organized manner, unlike President Bola Tinubu's announcement at his 2023 inauguration. Obi stated he would have first met with stakeholders in the petroleum sector. He denied criticizing Tinubu for the removal, saying he would have done it differently. He noted that since the subsidy removal, Nigeria has borrowed even more money than before.
