The IMF approves a new program for Senegal with a loan of 1,244 billion FCFA

On September 1, the IMF announced an agreement for a $2.2 billion loan to Senegal, aimed at supporting the country in light of a debt reaching 132% of GDP. This agreement follows a two-week mission in Dakar led by Mercedes Vera Martin. The previous program was suspended in 2024 after the discovery of hidden debt exceeding $11 billion. Senegalese authorities have intensified their efforts to convince the IMF of their ability to stabilize the country's financial situation.
