The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that all Kenyans registered as voters before 2012 must re-register. This decision aims to include older voters in the current biometric register, which was established following major electoral reforms. IEBC Chairman Erastus Ethekon stated that data from voters registered before 2012 was legally disposed of, and the commission hopes to increase the number of voters to about 28.8 million through the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
