Industrialization and Employment in Senegal: The Urgency of a Strategic Shift

Senegal faces a structural challenge regarding unemployment, which goes beyond job creation and requires a profound transformation of its unproductive and insufficiently industrialized economic model. With about 2,000 industrial companies for over 120,000 formal jobs, the country must find solutions to sustainably integrate its workforce into an economy dominated by the informal sector. Industrialization is presented as a central lever to reduce mass unemployment and improve productivity.
