Insecurity: IGP orders redeployment of DIGs to respective zones

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has ordered the deployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to their respective zones effective June 15, 2026, to strengthen supervision, operational coordination, and accountability. During a conference with senior police managers, he also directed Commissioners of Police to establish 'handshake' patrols to prevent criminals from escaping from one state to another, emphasizing collaboration and intelligence sharing.

Fresh controversy has erupted in Obilonu Autonomous Community in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, following the alleged conferment of chieftaincy titles by the traditional ruler, Eze L.O. Uche, despite a restraining order issued by an Abia State High Court. The order, issued on December 17, 2025, by Justice Enyinnaya Okezie, restrained Eze Uche and two others from bestowing titles pending the determination of a substantive application. The applicant, Emeka Chukwunenye, expressed concern that the ruler disobeyed the order. In response, Eze Uche claimed that the court order was not properly served within the mandated five-day period and that he never received any official document.
