ISWAP commanders, IEDs specialist surrender to troops in Yobe

Two commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) specialist, surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Yobe on June 8, 2026. Identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, they are currently in military custody for investigation. Additionally, two suspected terrorist informants were arrested in separate operations in Borno state.

BREAKING: Concerns mount over arrest of Osun NUJ Secretary

The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Osun State Council, Olalekan Akindoju, was arrested by police in Osogbo on Thursday morning. Osun NUJ Chairman Adeyemi Aboderin confirmed the arrest and stated that Akindoju was taken to the State CID. Later, he was tracked to the cells of the Police PRU unit at the Police Headquarters, possibly due to mistaken identity. The police have not yet issued an official statement.
