Guédiawaye: Tensions over a disputed nighttime eviction in the filaos area

On Sunday night into Monday, residents of Guédiawaye gathered in the filaos area to oppose their eviction after receiving an order to vacate the land within a short period. Poultry farmers and workers have used the site near the VDN for about 40 years, although they lack valid land titles. Their association says it requested occupancy permits from the authorities but received no favorable response. The occupants denounce the nighttime operation while talks with the Guédiawaye prefect about their status and titles were underway, and say their businesses, funded with millions, provide jobs for hundreds of young people.
