Iran’s supreme leader says those expecting a shift in US policy are ‘seriously mistaken’

Mojtaba Khamenei said Wednesday that those expecting a change in US policy or believing concessions could end hostility toward Iran were “seriously mistaken.” His remarks followed Democrats’ takeover of Congress in the US midterm elections, amid voter anger over living costs, tariffs and fuel prices driven up by the war against Iran. As diplomats work to prevent renewed fighting in the war that began on February 28, Khamenei warned that any repeated aggression would greatly widen the conflict. Iranian negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei also portrayed the election results as a rejection of war and a political defeat for Donald Trump.
