Crash of Kenge: Flags at Half-Mast and Three Days of National Mourning after the Death of Senior Military Magistrates (Government)

The Congolese government announced that flags across the country would be flown at half-mast starting September 28, 2026, following the death of Lieutenant-General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi Tiende, First President of the Military High Court, and Lieutenant-General Lucien-René Likulia Bakumi, Attorney General of the FARDC, along with members of their delegation. Three days of national mourning will be observed before their burial, as instructed by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances of the accident, and the government urges the public to show restraint and respect for the victims’ dignity.
