Jimenez and Quinones net as Mexico beat South Africa in World Cup opener

Mexico defeated South Africa 2-0 in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup at the Estadio Azteca. Julián Quiñones scored the tournament's first goal in the 9th minute, followed by a goal from Raúl Jiménez in the 67th minute. South Africa finished with nine men after red cards to Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane.
