Geordin Hill-Lewis, the new leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to sack John Steenhuisen, his predecessor and current agriculture minister, due to his handling of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak that devastated South Africa's livestock industry. Hill-Lewis proposes Willie Aucamp as replacement and also seeks other ministerial changes. Steenhuisen, who also faced a financial scandal, has been nominated as deputy minister of Trade and Industry, a major demotion.
