Johnson's medical certificate deemed 'useless' by Madlanga, leading to Commission delay

Retired justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, chairperson of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, on Monday called the sick note for IDAC head Advocate Andrea Johnson 'useless' as it gave no information. Johnson was expected to testify but was rushed to hospital, according to NPA legal representative Advocate Apla Bodlani SC, who cited serious health issues. The Commission lost a day of proceedings and adjourned Johnson's hearing to a later date. President Cyril Ramaphosa had recently extended the commission's final report deadline to November 16, 2026.

The petition was copied to several local and international organizations, including the Inspector-General of Police, UN Women, Amnesty International, and the European Union.
