Former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has officially assumed office as Kenya’s National Security Advisor, taking over from Monica Juma in a handover ceremony at the University of Nairobi on April 14, 2026. Boinnet, who was appointed Deputy National Security Advisor by President William Ruto in 2023, will now advise the president on national security policies. Monica Juma has transitioned to become the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
