Two years after the Okuama tragedy, where 17 Nigerian Army personnel were killed in March 2024, the community continues to face extrajudicial detentions. Despite multiple Federal High Court orders for the release of Okuama's leaders, the Nigerian military remains silent. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori attempted to restore peace by establishing an IDP camp and mediating between the military and the community. A call is made to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and direct the military to hand over the detainees to the appropriate judicial authorities.
