Doctors Raise Alarm Over AI-Fueled Scam Targeting Patients on Social Media

Doctors are warning the public about fraudsters using AI to impersonate medical professionals on social media and sell unverified cancer drugs. Dr. Catherine Nyongesa, a radiation oncologist, is targeted with AI-generated videos that falsely claim she treats conditions like arthritis and erectile dysfunction. The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has expressed concern. Additionally, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board previously flagged a counterfeit batch of the cancer drug Phesgo in the Kenyan market.
