A transhumant herder in Daga Youdou, Latmingué commune, Kaolack region, lost at least forty cattle after they ingested leaves from a locally called 'Pélé' toxic tree. The incident occurred in the owner's absence, with young herders unknowingly feeding the animals these leaves. Despite rapid veterinary intervention, the poison proved deadly. Local authorities have launched a campaign to raise awareness about toxic plants such as Sodom's Apple, Purging Nut, and Jequirity.
