Siguiri, Guinea: After 22 prefectural officials, state dismisses 479 neighborhood and district chiefs

Guinea’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization has dismissed 479 district and neighborhood presidents in the Siguiri administrative region, under a decision signed on November 3, 2026, by Minister Djenabou Touré Camara. They are accused of enabling or tolerating illegal gold mining, environmental damage, and the housing of foreign nationals without legal status. Their first vice-presidents will serve in their place, and legal proceedings are expected. The dismissals follow the October 30 suspension of 22 regional officials, including Siguiri’s prefect.
