The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) plans to recruit qualified non-teachers to supervise national exams, inspired by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) model. This move comes as teachers are still awaiting payment for their 2025 exam duties. The KUPPET union had ordered a boycott of supervision and marking for the 2026 exams due to arrears. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi promised to release Ksh1.5 billion before July to settle pending bills.
