The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has intensified calls for the government to close schools for a one-week break amid student unrest. KUPPET Kisumu Secretary George Osur warned of teacher stress and safety risks. By June 5, 80 out of 9,500 secondary schools had been closed due to unrest. The government and the KNUT union oppose an unscheduled closure.
