Obi, Makinde and hurdles against opposition coalition

A thaw in relations between National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is sparking discussions about a potential opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The two leaders, previously on opposing sides during the 2023 elections, were seen together recently in Ibadan and attended the inauguration of the Allied People’s Movement campaign office in Abuja. With Makinde moving to the APM platform, the key question is whether this rapprochement can lead to a broader opposition unity.
