Burkina Faso: 2,800 billion CFA francs to connect 6,700 localities to the electricity grid

On October 22, Burkina Faso’s government approved the Presidential Initiative for Energy for All, known as “Faso Wa-Fulu,” which plans more than 2,800 billion CFA francs in investment over ten years. The program aims to bring electricity to 6,700 new localities and extend energy services to 3.5 million additional households and businesses, affecting nearly 17.9 million people. Planned works include about 30,000 kilometers of high-voltage lines, 28,940 kilometers of low-voltage lines, and the rehabilitation of 14,470 kilometers of strategic infrastructure. Led by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries, the initiative seeks to improve electricity access by 2030, followed by a five-year phase to consolidate progress.
