Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly officially launched the Tongon solar power plant project on October 23, 2026, in M’Bengué department, Poro region. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027; the plant is expected to supply around 30,000 households, avoid 39,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually and create nearly 500 construction jobs, with commissioning due by mid-2028. The project supports the national goal of raising renewables to 45% of the energy mix by 2030.
