Oyo abduction: Makinde thanks Tinubu, says no ransom paid

Eight weeks after gunmen abducted dozens of pupils and teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Nigeria, the victims have been freed without ransom. Governor Seyi Makinde thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support. The state government emphasized that refusing to pay ransom was a victory against kidnapping. The May 15, 2026 attack resulted in the abduction of 39 pupils and 7 teachers, and the death of teacher Joel Adesiyan, killed while trying to escape, while another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, died in captivity.
