South Korea has hit e-commerce giant Coupang with a record $408m fine for leaking personal data of more than 33 million customers and failing to report the breach within the 72 hours required by law. The Personal Information Protection Commission said the incident was due to lack of safety measures, not sophisticated hacking. Coupang apologized but signaled it would challenge the fine in court.
