Aaron Munetsi, CEO of the Airlines Association of Southern Africa, expressed concerns about the state of aviation in Africa, noting that despite a population of 1.4 billion, the continent's contribution to global aviation remains marginal. He attributed this to regulatory bottlenecks and weak economic fundamentals, highlighting that Africa operates some of the oldest aircraft globally. Out of 52 national airlines, only seven are fully operational, with just one being profitable.
