Nyerere’s belief in integration didn’t follow him to the grave

Forty-seven years ago, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere militarily overthrew Ugandan President Idi Amin on April 11, 1979. Fifteen years earlier, he had also overthrown John Okello, the first president of Zanzibar, in 1964. Following Amin's ousting, Yoweri Museveni, then the Defence Minister, emerged as a key figure, later leading a rebellion that brought him to the presidency of Uganda. Museveni also played a significant role in liberating other African countries from racist domination and helped restore the East African Community.
