Members of the Nigerian Trawlers Owners Association (NITOA) reported that over 80% of their vessels are currently grounded due to the sharp rise in diesel prices. At the Ijora fish market, a shortage of fish has been noted, leading to increased prices. Oladele Robinson, National Executive Secretary of the Fisheries Cooperatives Federation of Nigeria, emphasized that high fuel costs are making fishing operations unsustainable.
