Turkey releases arrested May 1 protesters

Turkish authorities released over 500 protesters arrested during May Day rallies in Istanbul. Police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators, with a total of 576 arrests reported. Among those released was union official Basaran Aksu, who condemned the closure of Taksim Square, a symbolic site for gatherings. Unions had called for the protests under the slogan "Bread. Peace. Freedom."
