NBA condemns excessive bail conditions

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) condemns excessive and unrealistic bail conditions imposed by courts and law enforcement. NBA President Afam Osigwe stated that requirements such as sureties being senior civil servants or possessing high-value properties effectively deny bail. The NBA cites previous court rulings, including Suleman & Anor v. Commissioner of Police, and reminds that Section 165(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 prohibits excessive conditions.
