SA receives first batch of new HIV prevention medicine Lenacapavir

The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has approved Lenacapavir, a six-monthly PrEP injection to prevent HIV-1 in adults and adolescents weighing at least 35 kg. South Africa has received its first batch of 37,920 doses of this medicine, which is part of the integrated HIV prevention strategy. Lenacapavir aims to expand HIV prevention options, particularly for vulnerable groups including adolescent girls and young women.
