The World Health Organization (WHO) approved the first malaria treatment designed for newborns and very young infants on April 24, 2026. The medicine, artemether-lumefantrine, is intended for babies weighing between two and five kilograms, allowing for more appropriate treatment. This approval aims to close a care gap, especially in Africa, where around 30 million babies are born each year in malaria-affected areas.
