The Seoul Central District Court sentenced former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison for sending drones into North Korea, a move prosecutors argued was aimed at creating a pretext for his disastrous martial law declaration in 2024. Yoon had already been given life imprisonment in February for leading an insurrection. His legal team appealed, claiming the drone operation was an act of self-defense in response to North Korea's sending balloons carrying trash across the border.
