Land conflict in Luiza territory: a customary chief killed

Chief Bienvenu Tshitadi of Ngunyi Tshitadi village was killed on June 2, 2026, during a land conflict with the neighboring village of Ngunyi Kanana over a gold mining site in Luiza, Kasai-Central. A dozen people were seriously injured and several houses were burned. Residents of both villages fled, and local civil society is calling on authorities to intervene. This incident comes two months after another land conflict in the same area killed three people.
