Nigerian Army begins process to update 2017 defence doctrine

On 14 July 2026, the Nigerian Army's 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt received a delegation from the Committee on Review of the Joint Defence Doctrine 2017. Chaired by Major General Ademola Adedoja, the committee aims to produce a 2026 edition that captures Nigeria's shifting security landscape and modern military operations. The review, ordered by Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, began in June 2026 after missing two earlier update cycles in 2022 and 2025. Key areas include logistics, command and control, technology, emerging threats, and inter-agency cooperation.
