The Carter Center welcomes the mining sector audit announced by Félix Tshisekedi

The Carter Center expressed its support for President Félix Tshisekedi's initiative to audit the mining sector of the Democratic Republic of Congo, announced during the Council of Ministers on May 8. This audit aims to enhance transparency and accountability regarding mining revenues and the governance of joint ventures. Fabien Mayani, Director of the Natural Resource Governance Program, emphasized that Congolese citizens have the right to know how their mining resource revenues are managed. Previous studies have revealed significant losses due to tax avoidance practices and untracked revenues.
