Burkinabe junta leader declares the country must 'forget' democracy

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the leader of the Burkinabe junta, stated that the people must 'forget' democracy during a national television interview. Traoré, who seized power in a coup in September 2022, has suppressed dissenting voices and dissolved the electoral commission and all political parties in February. He asserted that elections are not on the agenda and that democracy is not for Burkina Faso.
