Abia Govt orders suspension of sand dredging in Osisioma River

The Commissioner for Environment of Abia State, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, has ordered the immediate suspension of sand dredging activities at the Umuadele River in Osisioma local government area. This decision follows concerns about environmental degradation and allegations of illegal operations. Ogbonna expressed worry over the increasing rate of illegal dredging activities in the area, which has been severely degraded due to over a decade of unregulated sand dredging.
