Govt Rules Out Calls for Scrapping of Boarding Schools Amid Rising Unrest Cases

The Kenyan government has rejected a stakeholder proposal to scrap boarding schools to address unrest and indiscipline in secondary schools. Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura stated that challenges are deeper and that teen pregnancies are more prevalent in day schools. He called for a national conversation on values and announced an increase in quality assurance officers from 600 to 1,000 to strengthen oversight. Nearly 80 out of 5,900 schools have been closed due to unrest.

The Nigerian Federal Government revealed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was among the political leaders who agreed to the adoption of rotational presidency after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
