Kenya Conducts Oil Spill Drills in Lamu Ahead of December Production

Kenya has started a four-day oil spill training in Lamu led by LAPSSET to prepare staff ahead of full oil production expected in December 2026. The training focuses on environmental protection and response. Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi confirmed that oil production from the South Lokichar Basin will begin before the end of the year.

Benue declares statewide emergency sanitation June 13

Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has ordered a statewide emergency environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday, June 13, 2026. The directive follows heavy rainfall and strong winds that have deposited large volumes of debris across city centres and major towns. The exercise will hold between 7 am and 9 am with movement restricted except for essential duties. Local government chairmen and residents of Makurdi, Tarkaa, Gboko, Ushongo and Vandeikya are specifically advised to comply.
