Tourism Ministry Rejects Counties’ Plan to Take Over Tsavo Parks, Warns of Chaos

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, led by Secretary Rebecca Miano, rejected a proposal to re-categorize Tsavo East and West National Parks, arguing that it would harm the centralized management needed to protect the ecosystem. Miano emphasized that the parks are a national asset shared by four counties and that management by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) is essential to avoid conflicts. She also clarified that historical lands in Taita Taveta County have been legally protected since 1970.
