The Federal Government of Nigeria indicated that the country spends about $6 billion annually on imported clothing due to weakened domestic production and low-cost imports. Minister of Industries, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olajumoke Oduwole, noted that over 90% of popular fabrics like Ankara are imported. While commissioning a garment factory in Abuja, she encouraged local firms to aim for exports and promised government support for the textile sector.
