Former eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede, who faces corruption charges, has joined the MK Party as its KwaZulu-Natal deputy convener. MK Party secretary-general Sibonelo Nomvalo announced the appointment, praising her 'unquestionable credentials'. Gumede is on trial for fraud, corruption, money laundering and racketeering related to a R320m solid waste tender. She was removed as mayor in 2019 after her arrest.
