The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has imposed restrictions on government bailouts for Kenya Airways and other local carriers to comply with global competition rules. The new regulations, published on April 8, state that state aid will only be allowed for economically or socially justifiable reasons. Kenya Airways has already received over Sh105 billion since 2020 to stay afloat, but these new rules could limit its ability to secure future bailouts.
