Farmers shun Hustler Fund to seek cash from friends, saccos, banks

A survey by the Central Bank of Kenya shows that the proportion of farmers using the Hustler Fund has dropped from 20% in November 2024 to just 4% in January 2026. Farmers now prefer to borrow from friends and family, with 42% resorting to this method in January 2026. Meanwhile, access to bank loans increased by 33% due to eased monetary policy, while borrowing from Saccos declined to 18%. Farmers continue to borrow mainly to purchase farm inputs.
