World Bank advice risks dragging Nigeria back into fuel import trap — Energy experts

Energy experts have criticized recent recommendations by the World Bank urging Nigeria to deepen fuel importation and fully liberalize its downstream petroleum sector. Economist Ken Ife emphasized that this advice is ill-timed and contradicts the Petroleum Industry Act, which mandates priority supply of domestic crude to local refiners. He warned that increased fuel importation would make Nigeria more vulnerable to global supply disruptions and undermine ongoing investments in local refining.
