Stakeholders renew call for decommissioning of abandoned oil wells in Niger Delta

Stakeholders from the Niger Delta, including environmental professionals and activists, have called on oil companies and the government to prioritize the decommissioning of abandoned oil wells, which pose environmental risks. During the 5th Niger Delta Alternatives Convergence, they expressed concerns about aging oil infrastructure that continues to pollute ecosystems and threaten communities. A transparent audit of all oil wells and petroleum infrastructure was requested, along with urgent ecological restoration.
