Kenyan police leave Haiti with a mixed record

The multinational security support mission in Haiti has concluded with the departure of the last contingent of Kenyan police. Approved by the UN Security Council in October 2023, the mission aimed to assist the Haitian National Police in combating gangs but faced delays, funding issues, and operational difficulties. Although Kenya committed to deploying around 1,000 officers, fewer than 800 were sent, and the annual budget of $600 million was not fully funded.
