Mineral royalties rebound to Sh3.8bn as State taps quarries

Kenya's earnings from mineral royalties rose by 18.8% last year, reaching Sh3.8 billion in 2025, after dropping to Sh3.2 billion in 2024. This recovery is attributed to tighter regulation of quarries and construction materials following the closure of Base Titanium. Ministry officials highlight that this increase reflects a policy shift aimed at diversifying revenue sources by formalizing previously unregulated quarry activities.
