Ethiopia accuses Tigrayan forces of preparing an offensive

Ethiopia warned on Thursday of an imminent risk of renewed hostilities in the north. According to the federal government, Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces are preparing an offensive against Addis Ababa with Eritrean support. This raises fears of a return to civil war after a two-year conflict (2020-2022) that left about 600,000 dead. A fragile ceasefire in 2022 did not end tensions, and direct clashes resumed in late 2025.
