Unnecessary interference by governors weakening local government system - APC guber candidate

APC gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, stated that unnecessary interference by governors is weakening the local government system in Nigeria. He spoke at a conference marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Local Government Reforms at Obafemi Awolowo University. Alli also identified weak financial independence, poor governance structures, and limited citizen participation as other problems. He pledged full financial and administrative autonomy for local government councils if elected in 2027.
